How to choose the right development agency for the job!

As we start to see the light at the end of this pandemic tunnel thanks to the distribution of the vaccine, no doubt thoughts are going to start turning to how to rebuild your business after probably the hardest 12 months thus far.

Having worked both client and agency side since leaving university, way back when, I often feel for businesses approaching agencies, as a lot of the time business owners or marketing professionals won’t 100% know whether spending valuable budget on marketing, development or creative services will pay off.

Having experienced both sides of the coin, I’d like to think that I have a pretty good understanding of the anxious feelings that go through people’s minds. Mostly…

Will they be too expensive?

Will we get a good ROI?

Can we just not do it ourselves?

Are we going to get taken for a ride?

The list goes on but the reason I’m writing this blog is to hopefully try and put your mind at ease with these simple steps:

Do your research!

The first step is finding an agency that offers what your business needs. If you want a new brochure, find an agency with experienced print designers.
If you want a new website, find an agency that has similar clients on their portfolio. If you want to try out digital marketing, find an agency which can give you examples of ROI based on similar clients they are servicing.

Just because Agency A is offering a discounted rate to try and win you over it does not mean that they are going to be the best agency for your business or get you the results you want.

Full-service agencies seems to be popping up everywhere and just because that’s what it says on the tin, it does not mean you have to put all your eggs in one basket and remember: it doesn’t matter if you fall for an agency that’s not on home turf.

Do your research

Start the conversations!

Once you’ve narrowed down your list is always worth arranging a face-to-face, although in this current climate Zoom/Teams might be more appropriate and have that all important conversation laying all the cards on the table. A simple conversation usually will give you a sense of whether the agency is on the same page as you/your business and whether you think you’ll be able to work with them.

Here at Webnetism it all starts with a chat, while having a tea/coffee. We take the jargon and formality out and just have a conversation – human to human! We’ve been working with businesses for over 20 years so we know how difficult it can be to take that first step into the unknown world of development agencies.

Start the conversations

If the shoe doesn’t fit!

Just because you’ve had that initial conversation with a few agencies it does not mean that you have to stick with them – don’t let them rush you! An agency that tries to rush you through the process, it’s not the one for you. An agency interested in delivering results should take the time to understand your business, its unique challenges, ambitions and most importantly its customers.

As a well-established agency with over 2 decades of working with clients under its belt, Webnetism approaches each existing and new client as an individual. During those initial briefing sessions, our team will get under the bonnet of your business, to be able to deliver the best possible product regardless of whether it’s a leaflet or a website.

Keep in touch!

Once the rigmarole of back-and-forth conversations start to slow down and the project you appointed Agency B has been launched don’t let the channel of communication close. Often we find that once projects come to fruition feedback on how that website, app or campaign is performing is lacking and personally hearing how our projects have helped businesses is often my favourite part.

Webnetism are a development agency based in Gloucestershire with over 20+ years of experience and an amazing inhouse team of experienced developers and designers. If you’re looking to take that anxious first step into creating or updating your existing website, app or simply require some creative services, get in touch.
