Our new version of CMS:42 is now in commercial use and we’ve recently launched a website using the first release https://www.continental.co.uk.

Why have we redeveloped our established CMS?

We’ve already got a shout up about development of the new CMS system and we suggest you check it out.

Stress testing

We’ve ran our new content management system through its paces on one of our existing hosting platforms. The content management system responded well to load testing, but we’re still confident we can make it even better. It will scale along with the server it’s running on and we can offer a hosting solution no matter what the demand.

Live testing

We’ve got a site live at the moment running the new content management system and we’re hoping to implement it on a couple more in the next few months, including a multi-site version which is planning to run over 80 microsites.

So far the system is running very well and has undergone some minor tweaks and changes since its initial release. The changes we’re making aim to improve performance further and ensure the system is as accessible and usable as it can be. It’s certainly not long until we’ll be using this as our main CMS platform and retiring our original version of CMS:42.

Performance

Not only is the new version of our Content Management System keeping up with the tuned performance of CMS:42 it’s out-performing it. Response and wait times have been reduced by up to a factor or 10x when running in the same environment meaning that page loads are reduced significantly across the board, this is great news for SEO as well as site visitors.

Resource usage

Our new Content Management system has a heavy focus on improving the experience for users on the front end of the site as well as the CMS portion of the system. We implemented many of the latest programming techniques and technologies to ensure the CMS always delivers a smooth and responsive experience.

One of the biggest improvements comes from an integral part of the new CMS, Caching and shared data. Caching and shared data allows us to serve content to users without having to fetch data on every request, this removes significant load from the database server and the processor on the webserver and makes Memory consumption much more predictable. In turn these features have helped us create a much more scalable system for our clients.

eCommerce

Now that the underlying Content Management System is completed and tested we’re redeveloping the eCommerce platform within our CMS system. This new eCommerce system plans to streamline the product interaction and make it easier for our clients to manage their product catalogue and orders.

It will feature integration with some of the most popular online shopping platforms out there (Amazon, eBay, etc…), multisite and all of our existing eCommerce features, all rewritten for better performance and usability.
